Professional Background

Before retiring, Senator Hamilton owned and operated an independent insurance agency, where he built a reputation for integrity, hard work, and community service. In recognition of his excellence in the field, he was named “Agent of the Year” in 2001 by the Independent Insurance Agents of West Virginia.

Education

Senator Bill Hamilton is a proud graduate of Buckhannon-Upshur High School. He furthered his education at Potomac State College, the Ohio State Fire Academy, and the Investment Institute of Atlanta. His diverse academic background reflects his lifelong commitment to public service, safety, and financial literacy.

Political Experience

With more than 20 years of public service, Senator Hamilton has built a long and respected career in West Virginia politics. He served in the West Virginia House of Delegates from 2003 to 2018, representing Districts 39 and 45. In 2018, he was elected to the West Virginia Senate, representing the 11th District, where he continues to advocate for his constituents common sense conservative solutions.

Religious, Civic, and Other Memberships

Senator Bill Hamilton is a practicing Catholic and an active member of numerous civic, fraternal, and conservation organizations. His community involvement includes membership in Franklin Lodge #7 AF & AM, the Tennerton Lions Club, Potomac Highlands Shrine Club, Upshur County Shrine Club, and the Osiris Temple A.A.O.N.M.S. of Wheeling, WV. A dedicated outdoorsman, he is affiliated with the National Wild Turkey Federation, is a Lifetime Member of the National Rifle Association, and actively participates in the Upshur County Farm Bureau and the Mountaineer Chapter of the Izaak Walton League. He also holds Lifetime Membership in the Upshur County Association of Retired School Employees and has served as a Hunter Safety Instructor in Upshur County for 33 years. In recognition of his contributions, Senator Hamilton was inducted into the West Virginia Hunter Safety Hall of Fame in 2023 by the WV Hunter Safety Association, of which he is a lifetime member. He was also named “Agent of the Year” in 2001 by the Independent Insurance Agents of West Virginia and 2005 Citizen of the Year by the Southern-Upshur Business Association.

Committed to District 11

Hamilton’s deep roots in public service began in the House of Delegates before advancing to the State Senate. Representing the largest legislative district east of the Mississippi River, Hamilton emphasized the value of the region:

“We cover a lot of ground in the 11th district,” Hamilton said, “but we have some of the best West Virginia has to offer—from year-round outdoor adventure to what industry demands now in order to locate and grow their jobs.”

He reaffirmed his ongoing commitment to supporting local resources and helping job creators expand and thrive in the region.
